I treated myself to a Vogue subscription recently so I thought I would create a new series focusing on recreating a look found in the beauty section. High fashion beauty has always fascinated me so I thought this could be fun to try out and, you never know, it might encourage me to create looks that I wouldn’t usually go for.
The first one I have tried is from the December issue. I was expecting it to be a lot more festive but it’s all about vampy purple lips and dark nails; and very little anywhere else. The focus is fully on the lips and the flawless face so I decided to brave it and give it a whirl!
I start off with my fail safe base which is made up of the L’Oreal True Match Foundation and the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (a true gem of affordable goodness). If you’re going for really dark lips you’ve gotta keep those dark circles at bay (otherwise you could turn into a very ropey looking vampire). After the main base I did a little contour and blush with the #BlushAndGlow Collection Palette and then to set it all in place a bit of the Bourjois Healthy Glow Powder which has a light Matte finish. I defined my eyebrows a bit with the L’Oreal Brow Artist Genius Kit and then I will ready for the main event!
Sticking the lippy on was by far the hardest part and, with all darker shades, if you don’t get it looking perfect it can turn into a complete mess (or you could look like a toddler raiding their mums lipsticks). The one I used for this look was an old Seventeen one but it’s a little too shiny for this style I think.
The lack of mascara was the really difficult bit for me as my eyelashes look pretty non-existent normally so this look really washes me out and I can’t exactly say it makes me look youthful either!
Overall I think it’s a fun one to try but if I was going for this kind of thing again I would definitely pair this dark lip with lashings of mascara for a real-world-friendly look.
What do you think? I think the models can stick with this one!
