3 Affordable Matte Lipsticks You Have to Try

Cheap liquid lipsticks and lipsticksThere’s always a matte lipstick in my handbag and rather than keep them all tucked away in my dressing table draw, it’s not unusual for me to have ten or more in my handbag at any one time. There’s a handful of favourites that constantly live in my bag and they all happen to be matte. I love them for different reasons so I thought I would share my top 3 with you.

Jouer Long-Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick

The name may be a bit of a mouthful and it’s not the cheapest on my list but this has to be my most used lipstick for every day use. The colour Cassis is a gorgeous mauvey-pink that’s really flattering and goes with everything. I need to get my hands on some more of these beauties because the formula is spot on. The texture is really light without being streaky so, one you’ve applied it, it dries in a few seconds and doesn’t leave you with that really uncomfortable feeling like you’ve been sucked of all your moisture. In fact, it doesn’t even feel like you have any lipstick on at all. There’s no need for lip liner either because it’s so opaque and light that you can get a really sharp edge on your lips (perfect if you want to overdraw them just a little). The staying power of these is the best I’ve tried so it’s low maintenance (a winner if you’re lazy like me). Did I mention it smells like buttercream? Don’t worry if you hate strong smelling lipsticks, the scent wears off in a minute or two.

Kiko Velvet Passion Matte Lipstick

As some of you may have gathered, I do love myself some Kiko makeup. I rave about this unsung brand all the time and this lipstick is no exception. The texture is so creamy and soft that you’ll just want to smush your lips together all day. The one I have is 403 Warm Pink, although it’s more on the red side in my opinion, and looks great with just black eyeliner and loads of mascara. The Packaging is really luxurious and, for an affordable brand, I think they’ve got the feel of these spot on. I’d say the wear time is medium length with an odd top-up needed here and there but, because it’s not a liquid formula, it doesn’t crumble or ever really dry completely when you need to add another layer.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

These are a bit of a cult classic in the drugstore beauty world and the range of colours available in this range is really great. I have a few of them now but the one I gravitate towards for day to day wear is Cool Brow. It’s quite an orange-brown once it’s on the lips so if you’re really into the whole 90’s look, this is perfect. I would say it’s a little more sheer than some of the other brighter colours in the collection but the formula is just as nice and the staying power is fab. It’s a popular choice when I want to wear more eye makeup and have an understated lip.

So those are my favourite matte lipsticks, what are your lipstick staples right now?

There is a kiko shop opening in Ipswich soon so I’ll have to head straight there and try this matte lipstick out!! My goto Lipstick at the moment is my Revlon colourbust balms as they are so soft to apply! 🙂 x
