There’s nothing I love more than treating myself to a luxury beauty item; the buying experience, the packaging, the high quality, but there’s something so satisfying about getting a makeup product you love for a fraction of the price. Of course there are items that are sometimes worth investing in, but there are some staple makeup products that you really don’t have to spend a fortune on. Here I’ve put together 3 makeup items that are not worth splashing out on and sometimes even beat the pricier versions – winner!
I have never bought a high end blusher and I don’t think I need to. For a product that’s probably going to be the first thing that wears off your face, it’s just not worth spending loads of money on. This Max Factor Creme Puff Blusher in Seductive Pink is great, is soft and really pigmented so you don’t need much for a natural rosy cheek. The swirl of colour has a very subtle radiance to it too so it doesn’t look too powdery on the skin. For a full face palette, I think this Collection #BlushAndGlow selection is even more of a bargain and gives you everything you need. Sometimes, with a cheaper makeup item, powders can be especially chalky or glittery but these are really nice. Even the highlighter is great for a subtle everyday glow.
I think most people will agree with me that a lot of drugstore mascaras are amazing. I’ve tried loads of expensive mascaras over the years but I’ve not found many that I’ve really fell in love with. L’Oreal are absolutely smashing it in the mascara department at the moment and the False Lash Sculpt one is no exception (and my current fave). The brush is a really unusual shape (it’s a sort of rubber triangle) but it seems to do the trick because it grabs every single eyelash. I’ve never had a mascara that makes my lashes look this long and lasts through the whole day with no flaking or smudging. This is even great layered over other L’Oreal Mascaras so, for the low price point, I don’t think you could go wrong.
I’m a big liquid eyeliner wearer so I’ve tried a few in my time and the best ones I have come across are from Kiko. The one in the picture was a limited edition but the Ultimate Pen Longwear Liner is pretty much the same. Because it’s a felt tip, it’s mega easy to get a precise flick and it’s a true black too. The reason I love this one is the staying power. Some cheaper alternatives do tend to wear off a bit but hunt around and you will definitely find a gem like this one.
That’s the thing about drug store makeup, if it does all go terribly wrong and there’s a product that doesn’t quite work the way you expected, you’ve not spent a fortune. If you smash £30 on a high end foundation and it doesn’t agree with you, then you’re going to be pretty annoyed about it!
